Running through Aug. 2, the new musical, described as a modern day school-set "Lord of the Flies," has book and lyrics by Chris Mathews, Jake Minton and Nathan Allen, with music by Kevin O'Donnell. Nathan Allen directs the production with choreography by Tommy Rapley.
Principal casting features Dillan Arrick (Lane), Steve McQuown (Casey), Sara Sawicki (Kate), Will Skrip (George), Katie Spelman (Sam) and Reed Wilson (Krueger).
The Girls vs. Boys ensemble includes Kelley Abell, Garrett Boileve, Seth Dhonau, Matt Deitchman, RB Embleton, Jennifer Ashley Eskew, Kaitlin Fine, Carly Robinson, Emma Rosenthal and Jimmy Wilcox.
Girls vs. Boys, according to press notes, "plunges you into an all-out war of the sexes. Brother and sister find themselves thrust into a perilous, modern day 'Lord of the Flies,' playing a game with rules they don't fully understand. But you can't win this game. You gotta play not to lose. The acclaimed creative team of The Sparrow, along with Northwestern students, has created a story of high stakes relationships with even greater consequences, challenging the storybook ideal of love in an amped up, exhilarating new musical."
Designing the production are Ana Kuzmanic (costume design), Sarah Hughey (lighting design), Brett Masteller (sound design) and Collette Pollard (scenic design). The presentation was developed through a partnership between the American Music Theatre Project at Northwestern University and The House Theatre of Chicago.
