Classic Arts News New York City Opera Presents Free 'Afternoon Arias' in Bryant Park Aug. 14-17 This week, for the third consecutive August, New York City Opera is bringing its series of lunchtime concerts to Bryant Park in midtown Manhattan.
"Afternoon Arias," three free performances sponsored by CIT, will take place at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, August 14, 16 and 17, on the Bryant Park Stage near 6th Avenue and West 42nd Street.

The concerts feature selections from works to be featured in City Opera's 2007-08 season, including Rossini's Barber of Seville, Puccini's La Bohme and Madama Butterfly, Bizet's Carmen and The Pearl Fishers, Barber's Vanessa, Bernstein's Candide, Mozart's Don Giovanni, Offenbach's The Tales of Hoffmann, Verdi's Rigoletto, Wright and Forrest's Kismet, Donizetti's Lucia di Lammermoor, and Gershwin's Porgy and Bess.

The performers, all on City Opera's roster, include sopranos Inna Dukach and Malia Bendi Merad, mezzo-sopranos Heather Johnson and Jennifer Tiller, tenors Christopher Jackson and Robert Mack, and baritones Michael Chioldi and Marco Nistic‹.
