Tony nominee Jeff Calhoun, director of the world premiere of Newsies, along with the musical's leading lady Kara Lindsay and cast member Max Ehrich sat down with "The Daily" to talk about the Newsboy Strike of 1899, upon which the new musical is based.

Newsies, adapted from the 1992 Disney movie musical of the same name, opened Sept. 25 at New Jersey's Paper Mill Playhouse, following previews that began Sept. 15. The musical features a score by eight-time Academy Award-winning composer Alan Menken and lyricist Jack Feldman, and a new book by four-time Tony Award winner Harvey Fierstein.

Here, Calhoun, Lindsay and Ehrich discuss the real-life events that inspired the Disney movie written by Bob Tzudiker and Noni White. The musical is currently planning a limited engagement through Oct. 16 at the Paper Mill.
