Prior to his acclaimed Broadway bow as lyricist and book writer of Next to Normal, Yorkey served as the associate artistic director of the Village Theatre. The Washington state theatre also served as the cradle for Next to Normal under the working title Feeling Electric.
Last season Yorkey returned to the Village to direct Neil Simon's Lost in Yonkers. He has also directed Aida and The Who's Tommy for the company.
Yorkey's other projects include the country-tinged musical Play It By Heart, as well as a new musical with Grammy-winning songwriter Sting based on the musician's album "The Soul Cages." It has also been reported that Yorkey was brought on to work on the book for the Broadway-bound musical Catch Me If You Can.
The Village season also includes The Full Monty, Anne of Green Gables, Sleuth and Iron Curtain.
