NY's Cannon Co. will present the New York debut of Puss-in-Boots by Ludwig Tieck, directed, adapted and designed by Richard Kimmel, at Performing Garage, Dec. 9-13.
Puss-in-Boots , originally written in 1797, was banned in Germany when it premiered. The play begins with a group of theatre critics interrupting what would have been the forward action, with critiques and assessments. Kimmel's contemporary adaptation of the play -- adding dance, a string trio and video -- intends to bring new relevance to the text.
Founded in 1997, Cannon Co. is dedicated to presenting classical texts with an ensemble company for a contemporary audiences. Other Cannon productions include: Witches' Macbeth at the 1997 Fringe Festival and at The American Living Room Series at HERE and Three Sisters at MCC.
Cannon Co.'s Puss-in-Boots plays a limited engagement at The Performing Garage, Dec. 9 - 13. For tickets ($10) or more information, call (212) 479-8411.
