When the Friday "On Stage And Off" column returns to the New York Times Sept. 19, it'll have a new byline: Rick Lyman, moving up from a general assignment cultural reporting slot he took on six months earlier.

The column features interviews with theatre notables, news of upcoming shows and backstage doings.

Former "On Stage And Off" columnist William Grimes has moved over to the food section (he recently penned a book on cocktails). The previous column writer, Peter Marks, is now a theatre critic at the paper. (Marks confirmed to Playbill On-Line that Lyman was chosen for the editorial slot.)

Lyman's previous assignments included stints at the Philadelphia Enquirer and in South Africa. At the Times, he will continue to write theatre news stories on top of his tasks for the "On Stage And Off" column.
