Off-Broadway's Looking Glass Theatre continues its women-based repertory with Susan Glaspell's The Verge, Jan. 14-Feb. 7, 1999.
The Verge, written by Providence Playhouse supporter (and author of the one-act Trifles) Glaspell in 1921, follows Claire Archer, a woman of good standing as she flirts with insanity in an attempt to break free of society's bonds. As she struggles to create a new flower, she rejects those around her, including her husband, daughter, sister and lovers, finally liberating herself, violently.
Mabou Mines company manager Martha Elliot directs. Ellen Archer stars as Claire Archer(!) with David Lee Garver, Kendall March, Melvin Rodriquez, Dellalyn Rostein, Jay Stratton, Caroline Treadwell and Srdjan Pesic.
James Wood designed the set, Ellen Perry, the costumes and Courtney Munch, the lighting.
Tickets for The Verge are $12 and can be ordered by calling (212) 307-9467. -- By Christine Ehren
