Farewell to Travis Bogard, a leading Eugene O'Neill scholar and author. According to the New York Post, Bogard died April 5 of a stroke. Professor emeritus of dramatic art at the University of California at Berkeley, Bogard developed the school's first Ph.D., program in the subject. He started teaching there in 1948 and retired in 1987.

Bogard authored the critical work, "Countour In Time, The Plays Of Eugene O'Neill," as well as overseeing "The Complete Plays Of Eugene O'Neill" authoritative compilation.

O'Neill, considered by many the most important American playwright, is the author of The Hairy Ape (currently Off-Broadway in an experimental production by the Wooster Group), Mourning Becomes Electra and Long Days Journey Into Night.
