Measure 4 Measure, an updated and slightly revised version of the Shakespeare classic, ends its Los Angeles run with Open Fist Theatre Company Oct. 21. Director Michael Winters has rewritten some of the dialogue while setting the play in a city resembling "down and dirty" contemporary Hollywood. Written in 1603, Measure for Measure deals with power, sex and political corruption as a public official attempts to seduce a nun in exchange for the life of her brother.
Winters recently appeared as Dr. Larch in the Mark Taper Forum's production of Cider House Rules. Other local appearances include The Kentucky Cycle at the Taper and The Seagull at the Matrix. He appeared briefly on Wrong Mountain on Broadway last winter. Winter is a member of the Noise Within company in Glendale.
Upcoming productions on Open Fist's 2000-2001 slate include Three Sisters, The Knackers ABC, The Wooden Breaks and Casanova.
Open Fist Theatre is located at 1625 N. LaBrea Ave. For tickets and information call (323) 882-6912.
