Classic Arts News Opera Boston to Stage Mozart, Weill, and Bizet in 2006-07 Opera Boston will present Mozart's La clemenza di Tito, Kurt Weill's The Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny, and Bizet's Les Pê_cheurs de Perles in 2006-07, the company announced.
La clemenza di Tito will be the company's first Mozart opera, scheduled in honor of the Mozart anniversary. Paul Austin Kelly and Kendra Colton make their company debuts as Tito and Servilia; Wendy Bryn Harmer returns to sing Vitellia. Brad Dalton directs.

The Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny features Joyce Castle as Leocadia Begbick, Amy Burton as Jenny, and Stephen Salters as Bank Account Bill. Sam Helfrich directs; scenery is by Caleb Wertenbaker.

Bizet's opera will be directed by James Marvel, with scenery by Susan Zeeman Rogers. Zurga will be sung by Robert Honeysucker, Nadir by Yeghishe Manucharyan, and Leila by Jee Hyun Lim.

All three productions will be conducted by Gil Rose, Opera Boston's music director; Nancy Leary is the costume designer and Christopher Ostrom the lighting designer.

Opera Boston has staged 34 regional premieres and two world premieres since its founding in 1980.
