News Oscar Winner Matt Damon Makes West End Debut in This Is Our Youth

Movie star Matt Damon will make his West End stage debut in This Is Our Youth at the Garrick Theatre beginning April 22.

Damon, one of the hottest young talents in Hollywood, will be joined in the three-character play by Casey Affleck and Summer Phoenix. Affleck is the brother of film actor Ben Affleck, who co-wrote the Oscar-winning screenplay for "Good Will Hunting" with Damon, which also starred Damon and both Afflecks. Damon's other film credits include "Ocean's Eleven," "The Talented Mr. Ripley," "Saving Private Ryan" and "School Ties."

This Is Our Youth, which is playing at the Garrick, is a witty study of three rich but bored teenagers living in Manhattan in the early 1980's. Written by Kenneth Lonergan, its current cast features Hayden Christensen, Jake Gyllenhaal and Anna Paquin.

Damon's arrival marks the latest in a line of Hollywood stars to tread the London stage. Brendan Fraser recently starred in a production of Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, and Katheen Turner is currently reprising her London performance in The Graduate for Broadway audiences.

Lonergan's This Is Our Youth had its world-premiere production at Off-Broadway's Intar Theatre with a cast that included Mark Ruffalo — who later starred opposite Laura Linney in Lonergan's film You Can Count On Me — Josh Hamilton and Missy Yeager.
