The limited engagement will begin Jan. 4, 2008, at the Kavli Theatre at the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza and run through Jan. 13. Marvin Thornton will choreograph the production with musical direction by Darryl Archibald. The cast will feature Arthur Ross, Pam Trotter, Natalie Wachen and Melissa Youngblood.
In a statement Carole W. Nussbaum, Cabrillo Music Theatre's president and chief executive officer, said, "I couldn't be happier that Ken Page, a member of the original Broadway cast of Ain't Misbehavin', will direct our show. Ken will surely get the joint jumpin' with his talent, knowledge and sheer passion for Ain't Misbehavin'."
Conceived and originally directed by Richard Maltby, Jr., Ain't Misbehavin' was based on an idea by Maltby and Murray Horwitz. The original Broadway production made a star out of its leading lady, the late Nell Carter, and featured such Fats Waller tunes as "Mean to Me," "Honeysuckle Rose," "Black and Blue" and the title tune.
Ken Page has appeared on Broadway in The Wiz, Guys and Dolls, Ain't Misbehavin' and Cats. He has also played such nightclubs as The Grand Finale, Reno Sweeney's, Sweetwaters, Les Mouches and The Bottom Line. Page portrayed club owner Max Washington in the "Dreamgirls" film.
The Kavli Theatre at the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza is located within the Countrywide Performing Arts Center at 2100 Thousand Oaks Boulevard in Thousand Oaks, CA. Tickets, priced $36-$64, are available by calling (805) 449-ARTS.
