The Arizona Theatre Company's production of Blues for an Alabama Sky, the Pearl Cleage play, starts the second leg of its production schedule Feb. 4. The co-production with Milwaukee Repertory Theatre finished its Tucson premiere Jan. 30 and plays in ATC's Phoenix space Feb. 4-20.
Blues is set during the Harlem Renaissance of the 1930s and centers on a group of friends who pursue a variety of dreams. Angel and Guy are artists, trying to find fame at the Cotton Club. Meanwhile, Delia, a social worker, and Sam, a local doctor, strive to improve the surrounding community and their lives.
The ATC cast features Adrian Bethea as Leland, Johnny Lee Davenport as Sam, Kwana Marinez as Delia, Trish McCall as Angel and Timothy McCuen Piggee as Guy. Timothy Bond directs in his ATC debut.
