The MCC Theater production of Permission — by Tony-nominated Hand to God playwright Robert Askins — officially opens May 20 following previews that began April 29.

In the lead roles are Justin Bartha (Lend Me a Tenor, "The Hangover") and Emmy nominee Elizabeth Reaser ("Grey's Anatomy," The Money Shot).

Permission is directed by Tony nominee Alex Timbers (Rocky), and performances are set to run through June 14 at the Lucille Lortel Theatre.

The cast also features Nicole Lowrance, Talene Monahon and Lucas Near-Verbrugghe.

In Permission, Bartha and Reaser play Eric and Cyndy, respectively, a couple who have decided to follow the example of their friends and make the real-life practice of Christian Domestic Discipline the foundation of their marriage. "But restructuring their lives and their union according to role play and a new moral code upends everything they knew--and took for granted--about one another, their friends, and more importantly, who really holds the power," state press notes.
