Melissa James Gibson’s new play This, which tells the story of four friends as they approach middle-age, began previews on July 30 at Center Theatre Group's Kirk Douglas Theatre.

Directed by Daniel Aukin, the production runs through Aug. 28 and features a cast that includes Saffron Burrows, Eisa Davis, Glenn Fitzgerald, Gilles Marini and Darren Pettie.

At the center of This is Jane (Burrows), who is, according to press notes, "a widow and single mom, who along with her circle of three friends, is warily approaching 'middle age.' As Jane’s long time friends—a jazz singer and carpenter struggling as new parents and an eccentric mnemonist, attempt to help Jane come to terms life without her husband, they begin to realize the unhappiness and lack of fulfillment in their own lives."

Here's a first look at the show:

This was first presented by Playwrights Horizons in New York in December 2009.

The Kirk Douglas Theatre is located at 9820 Washington Blvd., Culver City, CA. For more information and tickets, call (213) 628-2772 or visit www.CenterTheatreGroup.org.
