Davis McCallum (Sex Lives of Our Parents) directs the drama that is the second part of a planned trilogy that began with Hudes' Pulitzer Prize finalist work, Elliot, A Soldier's Fugue. McCallum also staged the world premiere of Elliot, A Soldier's Fugue in 2006.

The cast includes Ray Anthony Thomas, Armando Riesco, Zabryna Guevara, Liza Colon-Zayas, Teresa Avia Lim, Matthew Boston and Demosthenes Chrysan.
Hartford Stage previously workshopped the play in 2009. Riesco, who stars in the title role, was also part of that cast. Here's how Water by the Spoonful is billed: "Somewhere in Philadelphia, Elliot has returned from Iraq and is struggling to find his place in the world again and put aside the demons that haunt him. Somewhere in a chat room, recovering addicts forge an unbreakable bond of support and love. Hudes received a 2008 Tony nomination for penning the book for the Tony-winning musical In the Heights. Her work also includes Elliot, A Soldier's Fugue (Pulitzer Prize finalist), Yemaya's Belly and The Adventures of Barrio Grrrl! She is also at work on the musical Like Water for Chocolate.
