Michael Esper, Harriet Harris and Michael Cerveris led the cast of Steven Sater and Duncan Sheik's The Nightingale, which was presented July 8-10 as part of the Powerhouse Theater season.
The piece by Sater and Sheik's is described as a "compelling contemporary musical rendering of Hans Christian Andersen's classic tale of a young emperor who finds his heart in the song of a small grey bird – and in the soul of a common servant girl - far beyond the walls of the Forbidden City."
In addition to Esper, Harris, and Cerveris, the cast includes Uzo Aduba, Celina Carvajal, Blake Daniel, Andrew Durand, Kimiko Glenn, Kylie Liya Goldstein, Arielle Jacobs, Michael Mastro and Matt McGrath.
