News PHOTO CALL: Spring Awakening, With Eryn Murman and Miguel Cervantes, in San Jose San Jose Rep's production of the Tony Award-winning musical Spring Awakening, features Jason Hite as Melchior, Miguel Cervantes as Moritz and Eryn Murman as Wendla.

Artistic director Rick Lombardo directs the musical by lyricist-librettist Steven Sater and composer Duncan Sheik. The show earned 2007 Tonys for Best Musical, Best Book and Best Score. Choreography is by Sonya Tayeh of TV's "So You Think You Can Dance."

The California production is part of a formal alliance between San Jose Repertory Theatre and San Jose State University (SJSU), providing students with access to professional instruction and experience in the theatre. The run continues to Sept. 25.

The Adult characters in the musical based on Frank Wedekind's 19th-century expressionistic play about sexual awakening in teenagers are played by Todd Alan Johnson and Cindy Goldfield.

The cast also includes Lowell Abellon (San Jose Rep's The Kite Runner); Ernestine Balisi; Justin Buchs (American Musical Theatre of San Jose); Monique Hafen; Joshua James; Zarah Mahler (San Jose Rep's Love in American Times); Kristen Majetich; and Manuel Rodriguez-Ruiz.

The creative team includes AnnMarie Milazzo (vocal arrangements); Simon Hale (string orchestrations); John Iacovelli (set design); Rachel Myers (costume design); David Lee Cuthbert (lighting and mdeia designer); Steven Schoenbeck (sound designer); Dolores Duran-Cefalu (music director/conductor/keyboard); Dave Maier (fight director); Stephanie Schliemann (stage manager); Deirdre Rose Holland (assistant stage manager).
