News PHOTO CALL: The Cast of Broadway's Chinglish Meets the Press The cast of David Henry Hwang's Chinglish greeted the press Sept. 12 with a special photo op. Leigh Silverman directs the show, which begins previews at the Longacre Theatre Oct. 11.

Gary Wilmes steps into the role of an Ohio businessman in a foreign land in the Broadway production of Tony Award winner Hwang's play, which had its world premiere at Chicago's Goodman Theatre earlier this summer.

Chinglish will arrive on Broadway with much of its original cast intact, including Jennifer Lim as a captivating Chinese government official and Stephen Pucci as an Australian entrepreneur.

Also returning for the Broadway production are Larry Lei Zhang, Christine Lin, Angela Lin and Johnny Wu. Chinglish, directed by Obie Award winner Leigh Silverman (Well, In the Wake), will officially open Oct. 27.

According to the producers, "Chinglish is about an American businessman arrives in a bustling Chinese province looking to score a lucrative contact for his family's sign-making firm. He soon finds that the complexities of such a venture far outstrip the expected differences in language, customs and manners — and calls into questions even the most basic assumptions of human conduct."

The design team includes set designer David Korins (Lombardi, Passing Strange), costume designer Anita Yavich (Anna in the Tropics) and lighting designer Brian MacDevitt (The Book of Mormon, Fences, Goodman's Long Day's Journey into Night).

The Broadway production is produced by Jeffrey Richards, Jerry Frankel, Jay & Cindy Gutterman/Cathy Chernoff, Dasha Epstein, Ronald Frankel, Hunter Arnold, Herbert Goldsmith, Barry & Carole Kaye, Mary Lu Roffe, David & Barbara Stoller in association with Goodman Theatre.
