Time was, Opening Night at the Met was a luxurious but relatively sedate affair. No more — as with last year, the famous and fabulous turned out for the Metropolitan Opera House for the season-opening gala performance of Lucia di Lammermoor, directed by theater luminary Mary Zimmerman and starring the spectacular Natalie Dessay.

Spotted walking the red carpet were sports legends, stage royalty, movie stars, media moguls (including a certain opera-loving mayor), even a television news deity. (Not to mention opera stars.) We've posted a few snaps below.
