He's about to have a show of his own, but John Lithgow, soon to be off to Chicago for the premiere of The Sweet Smell of Success, caught the Nov. 8 opening night performance of the Roundabout Theatre's The Women. Other stars at the precedings included actor Kevin Bacon and his wife, actress Kyra Sedgwick.
In Clare Booth Luce's The Women, Kristen Johnston stars as Sylvia Fowler, the most cosmopolitan and conniving of the play's many distaff schemers, gossips and cheats. Purportedly a good friend to Mary Haines, the virtuous and suffering wife played by Cynthia Nixon, Sylvia nevertheless talks endless dirt about her pal, who is in danger of losing her husband (never seen) to the cheap and flashy shop girl Crystal. Filmdom's Jennifer Tilly plays the vulgar counter jumper. The Women plays at the American Airlines Theatre through Dec. 30.
