News Piazza's Clark to Direct Cellist Sachon in Birdland Debut Tony Award winner Victoria Clark, who will star as Sally Durant Plummer in the upcoming City Center Encores! production of Follies, will direct cellist Peter Sachon in his Birdland debut.

Sachon, who was featured in The Light in the Piazza orchestra, will perform at the famed jazz club Nov. 6 at 7 PM. The evening, entitled Peter Sachon: Strings Attached, will feature music composed for Sachon's Cello Project, which includes works by Stephen Schwartz, Jeff Blumenkrantz and Ricky Ian Gordon. Concertgoers can also expect to hear duets with several musical theatre performers. Victoria Clark received a 2005 Tony Award for her performance in The Light in the Piazza. Her other Broadway credits include Cabaret, Urinetown, Titanic, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, Guys and Dolls and A Grand Night for Singing. Among Clark's screen credits are "Cradle Will Rock," "Law & Order," "Law & Order: SVU" and "Sweeney Todd in Concert." As a director, she recently helmed the 92nd Street Y's "Lyrics & Lyricists" series Serenade in Blue: The Mack Gordon Song Calvacade.

The Cello Project II, a cycle of 11 world-premiere chamber pieces by Broadway and theatre composers, was presented at Symphony Space April 24. That Sachon evening, according to press notes, explored "the cello's almost limitless possibilities as both a solo instrument and chamber-music partner."
