TV's Bronson Pinchot and Christopher Burns have been across the pond playing Jake and Charlie, plus other roles in Stones in His Pockets in the West End. On Feb. 3 they returned to America for the West Coast premiere (and national tour debut) of Marie Jones' Stones at San Diego's Old Globe Theatre. The stint officially opens Feb. 8 for a run through March 16.
The two-handed comedy, under the direction of original helmer Ian McElhinney, opens Feb. 8. After the San Diego run, Stones in His Pockets will travel on to Wilmington, DE; San Francisco and Hartford, CT.
Stones in His Pockets is seen through the perspective of Charlie and Jack, two down-on-their luck Irishmen working as extras on a Hollywood film being shot in the Irish countryside. The close-knit rural community around them is uprooted and in some ways destroyed by the arrival of the Hollywood cast and crew. Among the characters Hill and Campion portray are Caroline Giovanni, the spoiled and horny American diva; Mickey, the last remaining extra from "The Quiet Man"; and Clem, the hunchbacked British director.
The play was inspired by Jones' own experience as an actor in films shot in Ireland, including 1993's “In the Name of the Father,” starring Daniel Day Lewis. Jones' other plays include A Night in November, Women on the Verge of HRT and the sequel Women on the Verge.Get a Life.
Pinchot has recently done some time in New York theatre, playing Autolycus in Shakespeare's A Winter's Tale with the Public Theatre and the Observer in the Broadway staging of Putting It Together. He may be best known, however, for the role of Balki in the popular TV series, "Perfect Strangers," and for his brief, but memorable work in "Beverly Hills Cop." Burns' New York credits include Prides Crossing, A Question of Mercy, F-Stop, Ice Island: The Wait for Shackleton and the Atlantic Theatre's Sexual Perversity in Chicago.
