This new incarnation of Roger O. Hirson and Stephen Schwartz's dark and groovy coming-of-age musical — which has been nominated for ten 2013 Tony Awards, including Best Musical Revival — premiered at the American Repertory Theater, where Tony-nominated director Diane Paulus (Hair, Porgy and Bess) is artistic director, last fall. The staging incorporates circus choreography and acrobatics by Gypsy Snider of the Montreal-based circus company Les 7 doigts de la main (7 Fingers).
Additional information, including tour dates, venues and casting, has not been announced.
Broadway previews of Pippin began March 23, prior to an official opening April 25, at the Music Box Theatre.
Pippin received the most 2013 Outer Critics Circle Awards with seven wins, including Outstanding Revival of a Musical, Outstanding Director of a Musical (Paulus), Outstanding Choreographer (Chet Walker), Outstanding Lighting Design (Kenneth Posner), Outstanding Actress in a Musical (Patina Miller), Outstanding Featured Actor in a Musical (Terrence Mann) and Outstanding Featured Actress in a Musical (Andrea Martin).
