Bill Pullman, seen on Broadway in Edward Albee's The Goat, or Who Is Sylvia?, will lead a cast which will include Johanna Day (Proof), Paul Sparks (Orange Flower Water), Julie White (Fiction) and Justin Hagan.
Erica Gould will direct the staged readings, to be held in Falmouth, MA, July 7, 8 and 9. Autobahn premiered as a one-night-only benefit for MCC Theatre March 8, 2004. The starry cast included Susan Sarandon, Brian Dennehy, Kevin Bacon, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Paul Rudd, Amanda Peet and Kyra Sedgwick.
Playwright LaBute, recently represented Off-Broadway with Fat Pig and This Is How It Goes, is known for his gritty dramas, which include The Mercy Seat, The Shape of Things and bash: latter-day plays. His film works include "In the Company of Men," "Your Friends and Neighbors" and "Nurse Betty."
Autobahn features seven brief vignettes set within the front-seat of a car. The titles comprising "Autobahn" include "Funny," "Bench Seat," "All Apologies," "Merge," "Long Division," "Road Trip" and "Autobahn."
This will mark LaBute's fist visit to The Cape Cod Theatre Project, the 11-year-old summer theatre festival, which briefly rehearses and offers polished readings of new works each July. The company is stationed in Falmouth in the southwest corner of Cape Cod, and performs out of The Falmouth Academy, a private school. Though the company never stages full productions and makes no bones about its plays being in a state of development, the season has become quite popular with the local populace. CCTP was founded by artistic director Andrew Polk and Jim Bracchiatta. CCTP workshops which went on to full productions include: Paula Vogel's The Mineola Twins (at the Roundabout Theatre Company), Ben Bettenbender's Vick's Boy (at Off Broadway's Rattlestick Theatre Company), Joe Hortua's Between Us (Manhattan Theatre Club), David Schulner's The Infinite Ache (at Long Wharf Theatre), BFE by Julia Cho (Long Wharf Theatre; due at Playwrights Horizons later this spring) and John Cariani's Almost, Maine and Paul Grellong's Manuscript, both due Off-Broadway next season.
The other plays scheduled for the 2005 season are Dearest Eugenia Haggis by Ann Marie Healy, which will star Obie-winner Dierdre O'Connell, and be directed by Pam MacKinnon (July 14, 15, 16); Port Authority Throw Down by Mike Batistick, director TBA (July 21, 22, 23); and Thanksgiving/Christmas by Joe Hortua, directed by Christopher Ashley (July 28, 29, 30).
