Lionsgate is currently finishing a deal for the North American distribution rights of the film version of David Lindsay-Abaire's Pulitzer Prize-winning play, Rabbit Hole, according to deadline.com.

The film will likely be released before the end of the year.

The family drama, dealing with a mother's inability to cope with the death of her young son, stars Academy Award winners and stage vets Nicole Kidman (The Blue Room, "The Hours," "Nine," "Moulin Rouge!") and Dianne Weist (All My Sons, "Bullets Over Broadway," "Hannah and Her Sisters"). Also featured are Tony nominee and Emmy winner Tammy Blanchard (Gypsy, "Life with Judy Garland: Me and My Shadows"), film favorite Aaron Eckhart and "Grey's Anatomy" star Sandra Oh. John Cameron Mitchell (Hedwig and the Angry Inch) directs.

Rabbit Hole premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival Sept. 13.
