Tony Randall, Jack Klugman and Paxton Whitehead open Tom Stoppard's Rough Crossing April 30 at Miami's Coconut Grove Playhouse. Performances began April 27 for a run through May 23. Whitehead also directs.

Rough Crossing takes place on a cruise ship as two playwrights, Gai and Turai, a cast and a nosy waiter create theatre on the high seas. Other plays by Stoppard include Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead, Indian Ink, The Real Thing and Arcadia. He recently won an Oscar for the film "Shakespeare in Love."

Klugman and Randall, famed as TV's "Odd Couple," recently appeared at Coconut Grove in the 1997 revival of The Sunshine Boys, which then transferred to the Lyceum Theatre on Broadway. Randall founded the National Actors Theater, which is currently presenting Night Must Fall. Whitehead, whose TV appearances include stints on "Mad About You" and "Friends," most recently performed in Ray Cooney's Out of Order in 1997 at the Playhouse. He already has Stoppard experience, having appeared in Artist Descending a Staircase on Broadway.

Randall and Whitehead star as the playwrights, Turai and Gal respectively. Klugman portrays the waiter Dvornicher. Two time Tony nominee Alison Fraser (The Mystery of Edwin Drood, Romance/Romance) plays ship siren Natasha. James Biberi is Ivar and Gibson Frazier is Adam, a heartbroken composer.

James Noone (Night Must Fall) designs the set, Noel Taylor the costumes and Kirk Bookman the lighting. Tickets are $40-$35 and available by calling the Playhouse box office at (305) 442-4000. The Coconut Grove Playhouse is located at 3500 Main Highway and on the web at http://www.cgplayhouse.com.
