The films come from the collection of Russell Scholl, a New York-based musician and archivist. They include excerpts from feature films, television appearance, and "soundies"‹shorts made during World War II, when the shellac needed to make records was in short supply.
The lineup also includes footage of Reinhardt and the Hot Club Quintet of France, part of a British film made in the late 1930s, and of Charlie Parker and his group, miming to a recording for a never-completed film by Life photographer Gjon Mili.
The January 25 screening is at Southpaw, a bar in the Park Slope section of Brooklyn. See http://www.stayfreemagazine.org/jumpin-jive.pdf for more information.
