True Colors artistic director Kenny Leon directs the New Orleans-inspired work that was created by Eve Ensler in partnership with V-Day and the Ashé Cultural Arts Center.
Rashad, who appeared under Leon's direction in Broadway's Gem of the Ocean, joins the previously announced Jasmine Guy, Tony winner Shirley Knight and Kerri Washington. The actresses will be joined by the women of New Orleans for the True Colors presentation.
Running through Nov. 16, the life-affirming work allows audiences to "experience New Orleans before, during and after our nation's worst natural disaster, Hurricane Katrina, through the stories of women who lived to tell about it."
A Nov. 6 benefit performance of Swimming Upstream will feature a post-performance reception with Leon, Ensler and the Upstream cast; the evening will honor the women of New Orleans and the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
