Gordon, who adapted his 1985 cult film of H.P. Lovecraft's "Re-Animator" into a successful musical, will stage the Los Angeles production of Taste this year, prior to filming a feature version of the play late next year.
Playwright Brand will adapt the play for the screen. The live stage production and the film will utilize the same cast.
Taste will be produced on a "microbudget." It is produced by Gordon and Adam Goldworm.
The play centers on Armin Meiwes, who posted an internet ad seeking a young male victim who he would murder and consume. Bernd Jürgen Brandes answered the ad and Meiwes filmed the act. He was ultimately sentenced to life in prison.
Re-Animator, which earned the L.A. Drama Critics Circle Award for Best Score, has music and lyrics by Mark Nutter, with a book by Dennis Paoli, Stuart Gordon and William J. Norris. It will play the New York Musical Theatre Festival July 17-22 run at the PTC Performance Space.
