News Reading of New Musical Pool Boy to Feature Mazzie, McCarthy, Cervantes and DeRosa Tony nominee Marin Mazzie and Jeff McCarthy will star in a private Manhattan reading of the new musical Pool Boy on Jan. 11.

The Barrington Stage Musical Theatre Lab presents the reading of the musical that has a score by Nikos Tsakalakos and a book by Janet Allard. Kevin Del Aguila will direct the presentation, with musical direction by Michael Pettry. In addition to McCarthy (Side Show, The Pirate Queen) as Mr. Duval and Mazzie (Passion, Ragtime) as Mrs. Duval, the cast will feature Miguel Cervantes (American Idiot, Happiness) as Nick, Orville Mendoza (Pacific Overtures) as the Sultan, Celina Carvajal (Rooms, Tarzan) as April, Stephen DeRosa (Hairspray, Into the Woods) as Mr. Lopes and Joshua Segarra ("The New Electric Company") as Jack.

Based on Tsakalakos’ experience as a pool boy in LA, press notes read: "A pool boy’s summer turns upside down when he’s seduced by L.A. glitz and glam and a sexy older woman. Love and chaos ensue in this rocking new musical about a pool boy’s hopes and dreams."

Tsakalakos' work has been presented as part of Songs of a Night Owl, Late Nite with Niko and Songs by Ridiculously Talented Composers and Lyricists You Probably Don’t Know but Should. Allard has penned the plays Vrooommm! A NAScomedy, Incognitom Fashionistas, Loyal, Speed Date, The Unknown and Untold Crimes of Insomniacs.
