Sophie, Totie and Belle, the new musical about the personal lives of three salty comediennes, has been extended through June 2 at the Forum Theatre in Metuchen, N.J.Written by Joanne Koch and Sarah Blacher Cohen, the musical examines the lives and careers of Sophie Tucker (Gwendolyn Jones), Totie Fields (Kathy Robinson) and Belle Barthe (Vicki Tripodo). It's been done at cabarets since its first staged reading in 1989, but this engagement is the first at a regional theatre. It was originally booked April 19 through May 19, but added two more weeks.
Though the show has some original music by Koch with Mark Elliott, most of the songs and jokes come straight from the comediennes' routines.
