Flea artistic director Jim Simpson directs the new play that began previews Feb. 12 for a run at the company's downtown home through March 15. From the Pulitzer Prize finalist who penned the racially fueled Stonewall Jackson's House comes another provocative drama. Girls in Trouble "takes on abortion in the '60s, when backrooms in the wrong part of town offered hope or death," according to production notes. The show asks, "In 2010, has abortion become merely another form of birth control?"

The cast features actors from the Flea's resident acting Company, The Bats: Andy Gershenzon, Brett Aresco, Betsy Lippitt, Akyiaa Wilson, Eboni Booth, Laurel Holland and Marshall York.

Reynolds has also written the plays Dinner with Demons, Geniuses, Fighting International Fat, Tunnel Fever or The Sheep is Out and the one-acts Yanks 3 Detroit O Top of the 7th and Rubbers.

The design team for Girls in Trouble includes John McDermott (sets), Zack Tinkelman (lights), Amanda Bujac (costumes) and Jeremy Wilson (sound).

Tickets to Girls in Trouble at The Flea, 41 White Street (between Church and Broadway), are available by calling (212) 352-3101 or online at theflea.org.
