Winner of the Olivier and London Evening Standard Awards for Best Comedy, Yasmina Reza's Art will definitely cross the Atlantic and reach Broadway in the spring but details are still in the process of being finalized.
Theatrical Index reports Reza's play will begin previews at the Royale Theatre Feb. 12 and open March 1. A spokesperson for the League of American Theatres and Producers says no dates have yet been registered for the production's opening or previews. The Royale is currently booked with The Triumph of Love.
Variety reported Sept. 15 that Alfred Molina and Tony Shaloub are "still in the running" for two of the roles.
These and other details are still unconfirmed (Sept. 15) by the the production's official NY spokespersons, the Boneau/Bryan-Brown press office.
Christopher Hampton's English translation of Reza's hit French play, opened Oct. 15 at Wyndham's Theatre in London. Matthew Warchus directed and will again on Broadway. Though the London mounting first starred Albert Finney and Tom Courtenay, that production continues its smash status with numerous cast replacements. David Pugh and Sean Connery are co-producers of the London production.
The play had its North American premiere Sept. 12 in Mexico City.
