Variety reports that the Weinstein Company has acquired the North American rights to the film, which stars Renee Zellweger, Ewan McGregor and Emily Watson. Chris Noonan directs the motion picture, which is currently filming in the U.K. The script, according to the industry paper, explores Potter's life and "follows her struggle to overcome a domineering, unsupportive mother and the chauvinism of Victorian England." Potter lived 1866-1943.
Producers of "Miss Potter" include David Kirschner, Corey Sienega, Mike Medavoy, Arnie Messer and David Thwaites. Actress Zellweger is executive producing.
Richard Maltby, Jr. is a noted director and lyricist, who co-conceived and directed the Tony-winning revues Ain't Misbehavin' and Fosse. He wrote the lyrics for and also directed the musical Baby. Maltby also penned the lyrics for Broadway's Big, Nick & Nora and Miss Saigon and helped rewrite the lyrics for the American bow of Andrew Lloyd Webber's Song and Dance. Maltby directed the Johnny Cash musical Ring of Fire, which is currently playing Broadway's Ethel Barrymore Theatre.
