Adam Arkin directs the live performances of the work at the Skirball Cultural Center which will be recorded for future radio broadcast. Also in the cast are Marin Hinkle ("Once and Again"), Jay Paulson and Matt Roth. Fifth of July is the final chapter (chronologically, though it was written before Talley and Son and Talley's Folly) in Pulitzer Prize winner Wilson's Talley trilogy which follows three generations of a family as they try to move forward. In the work, Ken Talley (Leonard) hosts a family reunion on the summer holiday and deals with the future of the family farmhouse.

Jo Bonney directed the 2003 revival of the play as part of the Signature Theatre Company's celebration of the playwright's work. Leonard lead a cast that included Jessalyn Gilsig, Parker Posey and Pamela Payton-Wright.

Wilson has authored over 17 full length and 30 short plays, receiving the 1980 Pulitzer Prize for Drama for Talley’s Folly. Other works include The Hot L Baltimore, The Mound Builders, Angels Fall and Burn This.

L.A.T.W.'s nationally syndicated radio show "The Play's The Thing" series is performed live at the Skirball Cultural Center. All performances are recorded for future broadcast to cities including Boston, Chicago, Seattle, Santa Fe as well as on XM Satellite radio. The two-hour radio broadcasts include special backstage features and interviews with actors, playwrights, and directors.
