News Rock Retelling of "Crime and Punishment," Taking Step Three13, Will Get Ars Nova Concert Songs from the musical Taking Step Three13, a rock-and-gospel-infused riff on Dostoevsky's "Crime and Punishment," by songwriter Matthew Doers, will be presented July 23 at Ars Nova.

The 8 PM concert is presented as part of Ars Nova's Uncharted initiative, which nurtures and presents the work of emerging voices in musical theatre. Taking Step Three13 was previously showcased at Joe's Pub as part of the Public Theater's New Work Now! series.

Sonny Paladino (White Noise, Disaster) will music-direct the concert. Performers include Chris Hall (Hedwig and the Angry Inch, Bedbugs!!!), Gina Milo (Les Miserables), Tanesha Ross (HairRio), Eric Summers (Little Mermaid) and Tori Scott.

Ars Nova and La Vie Productions present the concert.

Doers has several musicals in development and penned music and lyrics for HERE network's new variety show "She's Living For This!" starring drag artist Sherry Vine. Doers also served as music director and accompanist for performance artist Joey Arias at the Mexico City's "9th Annual International Cabaret Festival."
