Wesley will portray Beneatha Younger in a cast that will also include Judyann Elder (Lena Younger), Deidrie Henry (Ruth Younger), James Gleason (Karl Lindner), Noah Gray-Cabey (Travis Younger), Terrell Tilford (George Murchison) and Mirron Willis (Joseph Asagai/Bobo).
Casting for the central role of Walter Lee Younger will be announced shortly.
Obie Award-winning director Lou Bellamy will stage the LATW production that is scheduled to run Nov. 17-21 at the Skirball Center. Bellamy previously staged Raisin in the Sun for a mini-tour that played the Penumbra Theatre in St. Paul, as well as the Arizona Theatre Company and the Cleveland Play House during the 2008-2009 season.
Here's how LATW describes the classic: "Living in a tenement apartment on the South Side of Chicago in the 1950s, the Younger family awaits an insurance payout that could make its dreams of a better life come true - but each member of the family has his or her own idea of how to use the money. The title of the play is inspired by a line in the poem 'Harlem: A Dream Deferred' by Langston Hughes."
All LATW productions are recorded and broadcast on LATW's nationally syndicated radio theatre series, "The Play's the Thing." For tickets to any of "The Play's the Thing" productions at the Skirball Cultural Center, 2701 N. Sepulveda Boulevard, call the L.A. Theatre Works box office at (310) 827-0889.
