Glengarry Glen Ross, David Mamet's drama of tough-talking salesmen trying to grab their due of the American Dream, finishes its very popular San Francisco restaging on the American Conservatory Theatre's Geary stage Feb 11. The revival, which opened Jan. 10, added six extra performances instead of closing Feb. 4.
A 1984 Pulitzer Prize winner, Glengarry Glen Ross pits several salesman against each other, including the hot shot who makes all the big sales and the old man just trying to make ends meet. They battle against and with one another for good "leads," the suckers who will buy their often shady properties and make their commissions rise. Glengarry Glen Ross was made into a 1992 film starring Al Pacino, Jack Lemmon and Kevin Spacey. Other Mamet plays include American Buffalo, Sexual Perversity in Chicago, Speed-the-Plow, Oleanna and the films, "The Untouchables," "House of Games," "The Winslow Boy" and "State and Main."
Britain's Les Waters directs. His credits include Charles Mee, Jr.'s Big Love at the Actors Theatre of Louisville, Christopher Durang's Medea Amok at Ameircan Repertory Theatre, Wallace Shawn's The Designated Mourner at the Steppenwolf Theatre and Rebecca Gilman's Spinning Into Butter at the Goodman Theatre.
Playing his salesmen are Tony Amendola (Shelly Levene), John Apicella (Dave Moss), Marco Barricelli (Richard Roma), James Carpenter (James Lingk), Rod Gnapp (John Williamson) , Matt Gottlieb (George Aaronow) and Brian Keith Russell (Baylen).
Designing Glengarry Glen Ross are Loy Arcenas (sets), James F. Ingalls (lighting), Ann Bruice-Aling (costumes) and Garth Hemphill (sound). Tickets are $55-$14.
