SAN DIEGO, CA -- The Bluegrass musical Floyd Collins , Richard Greenberg's acclaimed Three Days of Rain and The Magic Fire, a memory play by Lillian Garrett-Groag, head the list of plays on the Old Globe's 1999 season.
The other shows announced by Old Globe artistic director Jack O'Brien include Bedroom Farce by Alan Ayckbourn and Blues for an Alabama Sky by Pearl Cleage. Another play will be announced later.
Floyd Collins, a co-production with the Goodman Theatre in Chicago and the American Music Theatre Festival in Philadelphia, tells the true tale of a trapped Kentucky caver in 1925. Music and lyrics by Adam Guettel, book by Tina Landau, who also directs.
"Floyd Collins has been gathering a huge following as one of the most exciting musicals of the decade," said O'Brien. "This intriguing, true story touches on many contemporary issues in our society."
