Paul Jolley was eliminated after he received the fewest votes among the finalists. From Palmersville, TN, the 23-year-old Jolley sang "Eleanor Rigby" by the Beatles on the March 20 performance show. Judges Mariah Carey, Randy Jackson, Nicki Minaj and Keith Urban chose not to use the once-a-season "save" for the aspiring singer.
On the March 27 broadcast, which begins at 8 PM ET on Fox, the remaining eight finalists will perform songs fitting the show's theme "Detroit: The Music of Motor City."
On the March 28 results show, which also begins at 8 PM, "American Idol" will celebrate its 450th episode. Season 11 Finalist Colton Dixon will also perform.
Those currently competing for the "American Idol" crown include Lazaro Arbos, Janelle Arthur, Candice Glover, Kree Harrison, Amber Holcomb, Angie Miller, Burnell Taylor and Devin Velez.
Former "American Idol" contestants who have taken to Broadway after their stint on "Idol" include Fantasia Barrino (The Color Purple), Clay Aiken (Spamalot), Constantine Maroulis (Rock of Ages), Diana DeGarmo (Hairspray), Frenchie Davis (Rent) and Jordin Sparks (In the Heights) as well as former "Idol" judge Kara DioGuardi (Chicago), among others.
