According to a report in Daily Variety (Oct. 14), negotiations are under way to bring Sam Shepard's Simpatico to the big screen with Sharon Stone, Jeff Bridges and Nick Nolte in final negotiations. Art director, Matthew Warchus adapted the script (with David Nicholls) and is slated to direct.
Simpatico is about a horse-racing scam that causes the relationship between two friends to deteriorate. The friendship is then re-examined 20 years later.
Plays by the Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright include the recent Eyes for Consuela, Curse of the Starving Class, Lie of the Mind, States of Shock, True West, and Buried Child.
Producers are Axiom Entertainment’s Dan Lupowitz and Timm Oberwelland, and Paris-based Emotion Pictures’ Jean Francois Fonlupt. While a release date hasn't yet been released, shooting is scheduled to begin in four weeks.
