News   Showing Off, Ghostlight Rushes Drowsy Chaperone Cast Album to Stores

The cast album for Broadway's Tony Award-nominated The Drowsy Chaperone will appear in stores earlier than expected, in time for the Tony weekend June 9.

"Due to overwhelming consumer demand for the album in anticipation of the Tony Awards, Ghostlight Records is rush-releasing The Drowsy Chaperone original cast recording," Ghostlight announced June 7. "The album will be available in select stores as early as this weekend. The label and its distribution company are working closely with retail partners to deliver product as soon as possible to stores nationwide."

The release date was originally expected to be June 27. The disc, as previously reported, includes two bonus tracks as well as narration tracks by the character known as Man in Chair (played by Bob Martin).

(Some fans reported to Playbill.com that the CD was in Manhattan stores as of June 7.)

The bonus tracks are "Message From a Nightingale" (from the Gable & Stein musical The Enchanted Nightingale) and "I Remember Love," a song that was cut from the Broadway production.

The CD comes with a full color 32-page booklet, which includes lyrics, production photos, as well as other treasures from Man In Chair's personal theatre memorabilia scrapbook. A limited edition vinyl version of the recording is also planned, though a release date has not been set. The show began previews at The Marquis Theater on April 3, and opened on May 1. The cast album was recorded on April 16. The CD is produced by Grammy Award winner and Academy Award nominee Joel Moss and Sh-K-Boom/Ghostlight Records president Kurt Deutsch. Ghostlight is a division of Sh-K-Boom Records.

The Drowsy Chaperone has been nominated for 13 Tony Awards. The Tony Awards will be presented June 11.

Ghostlight Records is distributed by Razor & Tie Entertainment. For more information, visit www.GhostlightRecords.com or www.sh-k-boom.com.
