Pirandello's classic Six Characters in Search of An Author (Six personnages en quete d'auteur) opened at the Theatre de l'Elodrado on Jan. 24, in a production directed by Jorge Lavelli.

Lavelli is one of the most famous and prestigious French theatre directors. For ten years, Lavelli was at the head of the Theatre National de la Colline. His recent theatrical credits include Albee's Three Tall Women, Kushner's Slavs ! and Brian Friel's Molly Sweeney. He has also directed several operatic productions, his most recent being Lehar's The Merry Widow for the Opera Garnier. Six Characters In Search Of An Author is the first play directed by Lavelli since he left the Theatre National de la Colline at the end of last year's season.

The cast of Six Characters In Search Of An Author will be lead by a trio of stage and film stars. Michel Duchaussoy will play the father. Elsa Zylberstein, revealed by Pialat's film Van Gogh, will be the daughter-in-law. Dominique Pinon, who has been seen recently in Alien 4, will portray the theatre manager.
