News   Smith, Bennett, Moore, Bussert to Star in The Sound of Music at the Ogunquit Playhouse

Stage and screen star Rex Smith (The Pirates of Penzance, The Scarlet Pimpernel, Grease) will play Captain von Trapp in the Ogunquit Playhouse's production of the Rodgers and Hammerstein classic The Sound of Music, June 30-July 24.

Smith will be joined by Gail Bennett (Ogunquit's My Fair Lady, Mary Poppins national tour) as Maria, Tony Award nominee Christa Moore (Gypsy, Big) as Elsa, Meg Bussert (Maury Yeston's Phantom, Brigadoon) as Mother Abbess and Dick Decareau (Chitty Chitty Bang Bang national tour, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes) as Max. The Sound of Music features a book by Howard Lindsay and Russell Crouse in addition to the Rodgers and Hammerstein score. The musical tells the story of Maria, a would-be nun who becomes a governess and music teacher to the seven children of the stern Captain von Trapp, renewing their lives just as World War II is beginning in Austria. The beloved score includes the title song, "My Favorite Things," "Do Re Mi," "The Lonely Goatherd," "How Can Love Survive" and "Edelweiss."
