With The Escapist, a small cabaret deep in Albania houses the gypsy Giorgio -- a second rate burlesque performer. When he finds out a great escape artist cancels a performance, Giorgio, his wife and sister, attempt to seize the opportunity to become stars.

Founded in 1996, The Flying Machine is comprised of international performers trained by movement guru Jacques LeCoq, with a common mission to create and tell stories.

Last year, the company's The Utopians played in the NY Fringe Fest and extended into a gig at the Present Company's Theatorium. The Escapist features Josh Carlebach directing Richard Crawford, Colin Gee, Jessica Green, and Ganzalo Munoz.

Soho Rep, founded in 1974, has introduced hundreds of playwrights to the New York scene, including Mac Wellman, Ain Gordon, Len Jenkin, and Eric Overmeyer. Once known for presenting theatre's most innovative playwrights, the theatre's reputation began to diminish in the '90s. Kicking off his tenure with downtown's hottest property (Richard Maxwell), new artistic director Daniel Aukin hopes to bring a new Soho Rep into the 21st Century. For tickets forThe Escapist call the Soho Rep box office at (212) 334-0962.
