Tony Award-winning Hairspray authors Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman penned the original songs for Marilyn – the musical at the center of "Smash."
The pilot episode, which is also available for download beginning Jan. 16, features two original songs by Shaiman and Wittman: "The National Pastime," with vocals by Hilty, and "Let Me Be Your Star," a belty duet for McPhee and Hilty. Also featured is McPhee's rendition of the pop ballad "Beautiful." Click on each of the titles to download the songs.
Additional songs from the upcoming episodes of "Smash" are expected to be released for digital download on iTunes.
"Smash" will premiere on NBC television Feb. 6. Steven Spielberg, Neil Meron and Craig Zadan are among the producers of the series. The cast also features Debra Messing, Anjelica Huston, Jack Davenport, Raza Jaffrey, Brian d’Arcy James and Jaime Cepero.
