News Songwriter Heather Christian Will Bring North to LaMaMa Jan. 18 Acclaimed multi-disciplinary artist and vocalist Heather Christian will bring her latest work, North, to LaMaMa e.t.c. for a limited engagement beginning Jan. 18.

Created, conceived and directed by Christian, North is performed by the vocalist and her band the Arbornauts, comprising Chris Giarmo, Hannah Heller, Mike Mikos and Raky Sastri.

The musical soundscape for North – including instruments as accordion, glockenspiel, harmonium, megaphone, melodica, typewriter and violin – is made up of pre-1700 classical pieces, original music and post-1960's pop that incorporates an eclectic range of music from Carmina Burana to Cyndi Lauper and Christian's original pieces.

For North Christian, according to press notes, has created a "baroque infused… crystalline outdoor living room with a moving visual circus of oddities and silhouettes that includes 12 narrating television screens, a puppet show and a moving arboretum." The production will explore multi-media storytelling and the nature of love, distance and longing.

The design team for North includes Jay Ryan (lighting design), Pandora Andrea Gastelum (costume design), Courtland Premo and Colin Campbell (set design). Christian and the Arbornauts have created the movement and choreography for North.

North will play a limited engagement at LaMaMa e.t.c. through Feb. 2. An official opening has been set for Jan. 20. Tickets are available by calling (212) 475-7710 or by visiting www.lamama.org. LaMaMa e.t.c. is located at 74A East 4th Street in Manhattan.
