News Sophie Hayden, Shira Gregory and Jeff Binder to Be Part of Free Reading of Panama Tony Award nominee Sophie Hayden will appear in a free reading of Mike Folie's absurd comedy Panama Nov. 9 at the Cell Theatre.

A Tony Award nominee for the 1992 revival of Frank Loesser's The Most Happy Fella, Hayden will lead a cast that also features Jeff Binder (Mary Poppins), Chris Critelli (Tinyard Hill), Shira Gregory (Frost/Nixon), Gordon Stanley (Cabaret), Jan Owen (An Inspector Calls) and Robyn Lee.

Diana Glazer will direct the 7 PM reading of Folie's play that is presented by the Hive Theatre Company. Panama is staged as part of the Hive Exposes Series, which explores the work of new plays and emerging playwrights.

Panama, according to the Hive, "tells the tale of a middle-aged man who becomes so enraged when his doctor tells him he will die someday that he embarks on a cross-country crime spree while desperately searching for a scientist who claims he can make people live forever. Along the way he and his wife pick up a pair of young hitchhikers and an old couple who may or may not be the man's parents. They all find what they are looking for at 'Happy Days,' the new Samuel Beckett theme park at Disneyland, when they come face to face with the scientist who promises to make them immortal."

Tickets for Panama are free and will be distributed at the door on a first-come, first-served basis. The Cell Theatre is located at 338 West 23rd Street in Manhattan.
