With Dame Judi Dench playing Into the Woods' Giantess via a recording, it's becoming a popular thing for actors to "phone in" their performances. Jean Stapleton, Brooke Shields and Elliott Gould are among the well-known actors leaving voice mail messages for the characters of Three Grooms and a Bride, a world premiere comedy by Gary Goldstein. Performances begin June 28 and continue at the Coast Playhouse through Aug. 4.
Stapleton, Shields and Gould, along with Loni Anderson, Mariette Hartley, Jim J. Bullock, Dan Lauria, Sally Kellerman, Robert Mandan, Paul Mazursky and Renee Taylor, have recorded messages offering congrats, condolences and advice to the three grooms and brides of the title. The comedy looks at a straight wedding and a gay one (hence the overflow of grooms), mocking love, relationships and the art of marriage planning.
Three Grooms and a Bride features Anne Desalvo, Seth Resnik, Michael Otis, Christopher Lamba and Stephanie Venditto.
Tickets are $25. The Coast Playhouse is located at 8325 Santa Monica Boulevard in West Hollywood. For reservations, call (323) 654-8111.
